Benedictions, Rodin, Portland Art Museum

I am part of a thriving community of makers in Portland, Oregon, where we call ourselves Layer Geeks and even host a club on meetup.com called the “Portland 3D printing lab.” We enthusiastically discuss 3D printing and challenge each other to create innovative projects. Our fun endeavors include designing a life-size cow, which was a thrilling project for us. This project stands out as one of my favorites to date - the Portland Art Museum commissioned me to 3D scan the Cantor Foundation's statues created from Auguste Rodin's works. With patience and a steady hand, I guided my iPad equipped with Occipital's Structure scanner. In real-time on an iPad, I could see the object being recorded into a 3D printable format. I then used Autodesk's Meshmixer application to refine and clean up the scan. The Portland Art Museum made this possible, and I feel truly fortunate to be able to share these scans with my fellow makers. I encourage you to have fun with the scans and bring them to life by creating them for yourself or a friend, allowing you to become a part of the maker movement as well.
