I'm proud to be a member of Portland's thriving maker community. We're a group known as Layer Geeks and have even formed a meetup club on meetup.com called the "Portland 3D printing lab." We're passionate about discussing 3D printing and pushing each other to create innovative projects. One exciting project we've undertaken is 3D printing a life-size cow, affectionately dubbed #crowdcow. This project stands out as one of my favorites to date, as the Portland Art Museum entrusted me with the task of 3D scanning the Cantor foundation's statues inspired by Auguste Rodin's work. With patience and precision, I guided my iPad equipped with the Structure scanner from Occipital. In real-time, I watched on an iPad screen as the object was recorded into a 3D printable format. Next, I utilized Autodesk's Meshmixer application to refine and clean up the scan. The Portland Art Museum made this incredible opportunity possible, and I feel truly fortunate to be able to share these scans with my fellow makers. If you're interested in experiencing Rodin's work firsthand, I highly recommend visiting "Auguste Rodin: The Human Experience" at the Portland Art Museum – it's a once-in-a-lifetime exhibit that will continue through April 2017. I invite you to join me in exploring these scans and creating your own unique projects. Make them for yourself or gift them to friends, and together we can be part of this vibrant maker movement.
