Bender Bending Rodríguez, commonly known as Bender, is a pivotal character in the animated television series Futurama. As Bending Unit 22, unit number 1,729, serial number 2716057,[1] he was created by visionary show creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen, with John DiMaggio bringing him to life through his distinctive voice. Bender's complex character fulfills a humorous, antihero-type role in Futurama, earning him the description of an "alcoholic, whore-mongering, chain-smoking gambler" from fellow character Leela. Bender's backstory reveals that he was built in Mexico, where his "swarthy Latin charm" originated. Through his own words, viewers learn about Bender's prejudice against non-robots: His dialogue frequently includes anti-human expressions such as "kill all humans." However, exceptions to this prejudicial attitude exist for individuals on his "Do Not Kill" list, which currently consists of only his closest friend Fry and colleague Hermes (Hermes was added after the episode "Lethal Inspection"). Bender's occasional display of sympathy suggests that he is not as belligerent as he claims, a view often echoed by his friends.
