Bender head cross-section
myminifactory
Bender is one of my favorite fictional robots and I've been itching to create something Bender-related for a while now. Seeing cross sections of Barbie dolls sparked an idea - why not do the same for Bender? There are two shots in the show of the inside of Bender's head, but they weren't enough to make me feel like this project was complete. So instead, I looked up all of Bender's functions and decided whether or not it made sense to include them in a cross-section of his head. A lot of the items in his head are never shown in the show, so I looked at real-world versions. Just like in the show, I kept Bender's hardware pretty low-tech. For example, the back of his head accepts floppy disks, so for the connection between his eyes and brain, a VGA cable would fit right in. I also tried to make sense of the placement: His inhibition unit is near the front of his head because that's where the magnet would interfere most with it (making him sing folk songs). Also, I've thought long and hard about how Bender's mouth would work in reality and couldn't come up with a realistic explanation. So for now, we just have to pretend his teeth can retract like a roller blind that also bends. Here is a list of stuff from the show that's included: Cheating unit (Flight to Remember 2-1) 6502 microprocessor, rod + gear (seen in 2-4) Floppy drive (How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back 2-14, disk is seen) Voice modifier (Bender Gets Made 2-17) EFTPOS (Leela's Homeworld 4-5, used) Spray paint (Pharaoh to Remember 4-7, effect seen) Pager (Less Than Hero 5-6, effect seen) Gyroscope (The Mutants Are Revolting 7-12, effect seen) Computer chip referred to as "my brain" (Roswell That Ends Well 3-19, seen) If printed at 100% size, you'll end up with a life-size version. So if you like, you can use real cables, RAM and floppy drives if you like. The way things fit together should be pretty self-explanatory, but if you need help, feel free to ask.
