This design is inspired by Benchy's legacy. You'd expect any printed object to be functional. I made the mistake of printing it for my kids, only to have it float upside down in the bathtub. Well, Benchy, meet the Sydney Ferry CAT. This time, I've created a vessel that meets basic expectations. The bath test revealed some promising results: at least it floats upright! The next challenge is to increase its waterline performance. Here's where things get interesting - and complicated. In version 2, I omitted window details to simplify the design. Unfortunately, this resulted in another failure. For v4, I enlarged the hull while removing windows to create more space above the waterline. This was a step in the right direction, but there was still room for improvement. Version 5 saw the addition of an air box in the lower deck's base, complete with a drainage hole for excess material. This clever design tweak allowed me to hollow out the vessel while maintaining stability.
