You can now accurately measure belt tension on your printer and compare it across different printers, making adjustments as needed. This tool measures the deflection of the belt over a 150mm distance, providing clear markings from the top or bottom for easy reading. It utilizes a readily available pen spring from Pilot G-2 pens to achieve precise measurements. I created this tool to overcome the limitations of relying on feel to gauge belt tension, which was often influenced by variables such as belt length, printer type, and individual finger sensitivity. Judging belt tension by deflection or sound was also inconsistent due to varying belt lengths. For instance, at the same tension level, belts can feel excessively tight on smaller printers, while appearing slack on larger ones like my delta. This tool is particularly useful for deltas, where matching belt tension across each tower is crucial. By providing a standardized method for measuring belt tension, you can ensure consistent performance and optimal print quality. To assemble this tool: Remove any imperfections from the stick by filing off zits, strings, blobs, or corner overshoots on its surface, as well as inside the hole in the base and finger. Ensure the stick glides smoothly into the base, and the finger fits snugly onto the stick. Dislodge the spring from a Pilot G-2 pen by giving it a firm whack against a table or using a hook to remove it. Slide the stick into the base, attach the spring to the stick, and secure the finger with super glue. Optional: Apply black paint to the indicator grooves for improved visibility. Use a rag to wipe away excess paint on the surface. Now you're ready to measure your belt tension accurately!
