The Bell UH-1B Iroquois, commonly known as the Huey, is a single-engine utility/medevac helicopter from the mid-1950s designed for the US Army. First produced in 1960, it served in the Vietnam War and beyond, transporting troops and medivacing wounded soldiers under fire. Some were armed with machine guns, rockets, and other weapons to support troop transports and medivac Hueys until the introduction of the Bell AH-1 Cobra helicopter gunship. Over 17,000 were built for the U.S. military during the '60s, with numerous improved versions produced since the initial UH-1B model. This versatile aircraft could carry up to ten troops or six wounded soldiers.
