The Bell UH-1B Iroquois, famously known as the 'Huey', is a single-engine turbine-powered utility and medevac helicopter designed in the mid-1950s for the US Army. Produced from 1960, it served during the Vietnam War and beyond, carrying troops or medevacing wounded soldiers under fire. Some were armed with machine guns, rockets, and other weapons to support troop transports and medivac Hueys until the introduction of the Bell AH-1 Cobra helicopter gunship. Over 17,000 were built for military use in the US during the '60s; the UH-1B was one of its initial versions, with many improved versions following and some still in production today. This versatile aircraft could carry up to ten troops or five to six wounded soldiers.
