The Bell UH-1B Iroquois, commonly known as "Huey," is a single-engine turbine utility and medevac helicopter built in the mid-'50s for the US Army. Production began in 1960 and continued throughout the Vietnam War. It transported troops and evacuated wounded soldiers under fire. Some were armed with machine guns, rockets, or converted into gunship support for Huey transports until the introduction of the Bell AH-1 Cobra helicopter gunship. Over 17,000 were built in the '60s, with the UH-1B being one of its initial versions. Improved models followed, and some are still in use today. The Huey could carry up to ten troops or six wounded soldiers.
