Bela Bartok in South Kensington, London
myminifactory
This statue of Bela Bartok stands a mere hundred yards or so from the entrance to South Kensington Tube station. A plaque on the railings beside the statue reveals a concise biography: 1881-1945, Hungarian composer crafted by award-winning sculptor Imre Varga. The Peter Warlock society and the Hungarian Cultural Centre joined forces in 2004 under the banner "Magyar Magic-Hungarian focus" to erect this tribute. It was English composer Peter Warlock who played a key role in introducing Bartok to London for the first time back in 1932. From then until 1937, Bartok consistently stayed with Sir Duncan and Lady Wilson at 7 Sydney Place, just 230 yards away from the statue. A commemorative Blue Plaque from English Heritage marks the spot of his frequent visits. This iconic object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit project spearheaded by MyMiniFactory. Their aim is to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from around the globe that can be accessed for free by the public.
