Herbie is a talking Volkswagen Beetle from 1963 that stars in multiple Disney movies, beginning with The Love Bug from 1968. He possesses his own mind and can drive himself; he's even competitive in car races. Throughout the series, Herbie stands out with red, white, and blue racing stripes running from the front to back bumper, a number "53" on the front luggage compartment lid, doors, and engine lid, as well as a yellow-on-black California license plate that reads "OFP 857".
