Beer Topper Trophies
thingiverse
Every year, we throw a Beer Olympics where we compete in various drinking games and award trophies at the end. This year's Olympics were approaching quickly, and with time running out, I designed and printed this concept over the course of a single day. The base slips snugly over the top of a soda or beer can. My model differs slightly from the original design to make it easier to print. The flat bottom allowed me to bypass any issues my slicer might have had opening the original file. Printing requires precise calibration, as a perfect fit is essential for staying securely on a can. I used Sketchup to modify the base and generate the numbers. I created three separate models for 1, 2, and 3, but printed them all at once. I printed the bases in black with the hole facing up and the numbers in gold. Since I print in ABS plastic, I melted it using acetone to attach the two parts together. This color combination matches my favorite beer, and I took home third place this year. These are great display pieces but hold little practical value beyond that. I'm considering modifying them so you can still drink the beer with the topper in place, but for now, I'm unsure how to achieve that.
