Beer Grenade or Beer Fire Extinguisher Instructions: Print the 3 STL files - I used 15% infill for the prototype, but more infill would be better. The top part has also been modified so that the spring now functions as intended. Parts Needed: A 3D printer, of course, for the three separate parts involved in this project. Additionally, you will need an M3 bolt and nut (I used an M3 x 10 with a plain M3 nut) - it's worth noting that the bolt could be a bit shorter than what I have listed here, approximately 3mm, which would require using a junior hacksaw. You'll also need a 3.1 or 3.2mm drill bit for cleaning out any holes that are printed in the model, as well as an M3 split pin - these can often be found at local garages and are commonly used to keep castle nuts on suspension parts of cars. Furthermore, you will need a small split ring or key ring, but the exact size isn't particularly important as long as it fits the M3 split pin in question. One full or empty beer can will also be necessary for this project - I personally prefer to use an empty one, providing me with an excuse to consume its contents. If you're interested in getting the design to function properly - i.e., when you pull the pin, the top/handle knobs come off - then a 3.5 diameter x 15mm spring will be necessary; as it is, I found that mine only just works, so an even higher spring rate would be ideal. Lastly, the four holes at the bottom are there if you want to tap out for M3 grub screws in order to fix the entire device onto a beer can - although I didn't end up doing this with my prototype. In case you need any clarification regarding usage of commercial products in photos on the site: it's absolutely fine by me if anyone has any problems with their logos appearing in my post; just give me the word, and I'll be happy to go ahead and remove them. This Beer Grenade or Beer Fire Extinguisher prototype was produced using an i3. If anyone is interested in improving upon this idea, please feel free to get in touch with a message - as it stands, the design files are held within Inventor 2012, but I can easily convert these to alternative formats if needed. To my readers - thank you!
