Beer Can Hydroponics
pinshape
Summary This project reuses beer cans as hydroponics pots by repurposing them into three parts: the Top, Spout, and Post. Build Video: https://youtu.be/QD7ZpgD1Qko Instructions Parts: 1) 10in Bowl 2) Water pump (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JWJIC0K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) 3) Tubing for the pump 4) Six empty beer cans 5) Controller (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00P0TZ5CY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) Step 1: Print the Beer_Hydro_Spout. Step 2: Print the Beer_Hydro_Post. Step 3: Print the Beer_Hydro_Top_Test. Step 4: Place the Beer Hydro Top Test over the 10in pot, ensuring it sits partially on top and partially in the bowl. The beveled edges allow for stability. Step 5: Adjust the post hole as needed due to differences in filament used. Ensure a proper fit before printing the next piece. To adjust the top parameters, use the Beer_Hydro_Top_Test SCAD file at the beginning of the file. If the top or post does not fit correctly, modify the settings until a suitable print is achieved. A separate SCAD file, Beer_Hydro_Top_Slot_Test, allows for testing the post size before final printing. Step 5: Print the Beer_Hydro_Top using adjusted settings from Step 4. Step 6: Insert the Beer_Hydro_Post into the Top. It should fit snugly without breaking. Step 7: Push tubing up the post and attach it to the Spout. Step 8: Attach the pump to the tubing and place everything on top of the 10in pot/bowl. Step 9: Cut off the tops of the beer cans using a can opener. Step 12: Create drain holes in the bottom of each can. Step 13: Fill the pots with growing medium, such as rock wool. Step 14: Add plants and place a can into a slot. Step 15: Position the Spout close to the plant, allowing it to grow around the spout. Step 16: Control water timing using a simple timer or alternative methods like a Raspberry Pi or Arduino.
