On Friday, I was tasked with designing a Beer Bottle Opener featuring our company logo by Monday. To obtain accurate dimensions, I reverse engineered an actual opener on Sunday. Using Solidworks, I sketched the design, including the logo, and added a screw hole for a keyring. The resulting file was transferred into both dwg and stl formats. A 3D printed sample arrived that afternoon, courtesy of an ex-colleague who is now a teacher at a technical school. The prototype passed the beer bottle test with flying colors! The final gadget will be made from high strength aluminum extrusions, barrel finished and provided to attendees at a technical fair in three weeks, aptly named "a top gear project." A leg was added to the model after identifying flaws in the rapid prototype, allowing it to stand horizontally. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
