It is recognized as one of the largest frogs to have ever existed. Beelzebufo ampinga was first discovered in Madagascar and was named after Beelzebub, a biblical demon, due to its large size and formidable appearance. It had a robust body, measuring about 40 centimeters (16 inches) in length and weighing up to 4.5 kilograms (10 pounds). This made it similar in size to a small beach ball or a modern-day bullfrog. One of the most distinctive features of Beelzebufo ampinga was its large and powerful jaws. It had a wide mouth with numerous sharp teeth, indicating that it was likely a predator. It is believed to have fed on a diet consisting of small vertebrates and invertebrates, including other frogs, lizards, and even hatchling dinosaurs.
