Honey production requires an enormous effort from individual bees, with one worker bee covering over 90,000 miles by flying around the world three times in order to produce just one pound of honey. Throughout its lifespan, a single average bee contributes only about 1/12th of a teaspoon of this valuable sweetener. A typical trip for collecting nectar involves visiting between 50 and 100 different flowers. Capable of reaching remarkable distances, honey bees can fly up to six miles in a single session, and move at speeds of as much as 15 miles per hour.
