Summary: Blocking Ants from Beehive Entries with Beehive Legs. Beehive legs designed to prevent ants from entering the hive are created by printing four identical pieces, one for each corner of the beehive stand. The legs should be printed solid (100% fill) to ensure their strength in supporting a full beehive's weight; however, they must be thoroughly tested before use on the hive. To attach the legs permanently, simply screw and washer through the center hole into the wood of the beehive. After leveling your hive, you can fill the moat with water, oil or another substance to block ants and other crawling insects from marching up into the hive. The legs must be regularly inspected to ensure that something isn't lying across the moat or that the ants haven't created a bridge for their colony. Update (April 23rd, 2015): A rain cap has been added to the leg design to prevent rain from washing away the oil or other substances in the moat. The small circle cutout can be rotated into position for viewing or filling the moat and then rotated again to hide it.
