Beehive Ant Moat
thingiverse
Beehive legs prevent ants from invading the hive by blocking their path. Instructions: To construct these protective barriers, print 4 individual legs - one for each corner of the beehive stand. Printing them solid will result in sturdy supports capable of handling a full hive's weight. However, test the structure before applying it to the hive to ensure its stability. For a permanent attachment, screw and washer through the center hole into the beehive's wooden frame. Following level alignment, fill the moat with water or oil to repel crawling insects. Regular inspections will reveal any obstructions across the moat or ant 'bridges' that have formed for their colony. Update: A rain cap has been integrated to shield the leg from rain erosion of protective substances. The small circular cutout can be rotated to view and fill the moat before concealing it again. Later Update: An additional, removable rain cap is introduced, using water as a replacement substance for oil or other alternatives, necessitating more frequent replacements but minimizing blockages.
