Beefy Slide-Switch Housing

Let's put that switch on a solid footing by mounting it in a safe and attractive housing. This two-part design lets you install a big, powerful power switch in a safer and more visually appealing configuration. It's especially a good idea when switching AC voltages or higher currents. The switches that fit here are standard large SPST, SPDT, or DPDT slide switches with longer actuators. You'll need at least 9mm of actuator length to comfortably use this design. 12mm is even better. If you have a shorter actuator, I can try to modify the outer wall for you. I designed this housing using two very old scavenged switches that I had on hand. My application involves solar-charged, 12V battery lighting. If you want to buy a switch that will fit here, I found a couple of models that should work: the GF326 and the PM13B012 (available at DigiKey) - each costs around $1 in small quantities of one or two. In general, this housing works with any panel-mount switch that has a 32mm x 13mm body/flange, a depth of 6mm to the pins, and an actuator longer than 9mm.
