The Baron shares a direct lineage with the earlier Travel Air model 95 produced by Beechcraft in the 1950s. The production run for the Baron started in 1961 and as of 2008 it retailed for $1,040,000. Despite being considered at the higher end of the civilian aircraft price market, prices have not depreciated but rather appreciated or held steady over time. It has been employed by numerous aviation professionals such as private pilots to transport family members, executives flying into meetings, air taxi services and flight training institutions in addition to serving military units, some regional airlines and charter companies.
