bed leveling test: 200x200mm
thingiverse
(if you are like me and just want the instructions, skip to the last paragraph) I saw @Hobby Hoarder's YouTube Video for using bed leveling squares to get the perfect first layer(link below). I thought it was a great idea but it had 1 problem; It used a ton of plastic. If you are like me and stink at leveling your printer, you might have to make it 4 and 5 times before you get it right, which means a TON of wasted plastic. Now I know about those plastic recycling services where you mail in a box of scraps, and they send you a new spool of recycled plastic, but that is a lot of work, so it is easier to just buy a new spool instead. There are also those machines, but those are expensive, require tinkering, and lots of trial and error, and I ain't got time for that! So, this is where my giant skirt comes in. The gist of it is you import it into your slicer, set your build plate adhesion to skirt, set the skirt distance to 0.2(or whatever your layer height is), and I set my skirt line count to 5. This gave me time to level the bed as it printed, while using less plastic. I got a perfect level on the first try. And the best part is way less plastic.
