Leveling the Bed for Your Printer: A Simple Guide To begin with, you'll need a 15x15cm square with a height of just 1mm. To make this work, simply add a proper skirt to your object in slic3r and set the distance from the object accordingly. Here's how to level your bed: Check the surface on which you keep your printer. Make sure it's perfectly level. If not, remember that any discrepancies will be reflected in your print results. Next, check the Z-axis frame of your printer. It should match the level of the surface you're using. Don't worry if you have two Z-axis stepper motors; simply twist one up or down to level out the arm. Now it's time to get your bed leveling screws in line. Position them at about 2/3 of their total height and make sure they're all on the same level. Adjust your Z-axis stop as closely as possible to the current bed level. This will ensure that your printer is printing at the right height. Once you've got everything set, home your extruder and check the nozzle distance in each of the four (or three) corners of your bed. Use a piece of paper to test this; if it can still slide under the nozzle, you're good to go. Finally, tune up your first layer height and first layer extrusion settings in your slicing program so that they stick perfectly to the surface.
