Beauty and the Beast Magic Mirror
thingiverse
I created this for a high school production of Beauty and the Beast. The project was actually based on a free LED light from Harbor Freight. The face of the mirror was cut from a Ferrero Rocher plastic box and lined with parchment paper to enhance diffusion. A picture of my original wiring is included in the images. To assemble it, I drilled two clearance holes in the raised shapes on the side of the mirror and secured it with 1 1/4" drywall screws. The screws were hidden with glued-on gemstones. Unfortunately, the initial design failed to withstand the rigors of the stage. The electronics occupied too much space inside the body of the mirror, preventing me from anchoring the handle securely as Belle running home to save Maurice required. The head of the mirror fell off and somehow (this part I still don't understand) the plastic battery holder inside shattered, despite nothing else inside being moved so batteries were rolling around inside. To repair it, I inserted a dowel down the handle that matched the length of the mirror. I hot-glued it to the inside of the mirror for added stability. The second version of the lights was achieved by winding fairy lights along the inside and sides of the mirror. Unfortunately, the mirror head was not deep enough to accommodate the fairy lights controller, so I simply painted it silver and glued it to the back. If I were to remake this, I'd probably design it differently.
