I've modified my earlier parametric lamp shade so it fits nicely into an old lamp where the dome was damaged. In particular, the stand notch parameter allows the bottom to be inward curved so it can fit perfectly on screws or snap right onto something. The parameters I used are showcased in the gallery. I have posted additional details about how to make it into Instructions. I've computed this one with quality setting "2" (which took 100s on a newer laptop), utilizing Chrome's power. Link is still available at http://beta.gigmade.com/2015/04/beautiful-curves. Update: Very high-resolution output is now accessible. Instructions Get customized STL from http://beta.gigmade.com/2015/04/beautiful-curves/ The two "piriform height constant" values result in an object where the curved part's length is roughly double the value you input, in millimeters. There are a vertical and horizontal scale for the entire finished product in case you want to adjust the end result without changing other values. Printing This model must be printed in "vase-mode" and with no bottom wall. In Ultimaker's "cura" slicer, the setting to check is called "spiralize outer contour," and uncheck "solid infill bottom." Then it should work fine. As you may see, I've used an Ultimaker with a customized fan (Google "tapir shroud"), but I don't believe this made much of a difference. To be on the safe side, I have decreased speed significantly at the place where there is a large outward angle - it might have been between 15-20 millimeters per second (at 210°C temperature with PLA material). It can probably print faster but I didn't want to risk anything. Printing took about eight hours with these settings. The light it produces is quite nice, however be cautious: using a regular 40-watt bulb could potentially deform the object slowly; using an LED light should definitely work well with PLA materials.
