Bearing YoYo
thingiverse
Craft an all-printable bearing style yo-yo, excluding just the string, by assembling it with printable M5-0.8 hex head bolts and nuts, genuine counterparts, or any combination in between. For printing, use PLA on a UM2 printer at 50C bed temperature. Ensure fast printing for yo-yo halves with 80% infill, slow and cold printing at 100 micron for the core to prevent curling, with 100% infill. Print the bolt and nut at 100 micron, 40 mm/s, and 190C, also with 100% infill. For a better finish, print on a non-heated blue tape bed for slightly rounded bottoms, reducing string friction. To assemble, twist the halves together and test fit until perfect. Use a lock nut with real versions; be cautious not to overtighten the bolt to prevent cracking the nut. Apply petroleum jelly between core and bolt interface. Sand down threads of real bolts before use to avoid cutting into plastic. For a permanent device, glue real lock nuts and bolts in place, but avoid gluing plastic bolts to prevent breakage on impact.
