If you own a newer Rocky Mountain full suspension bike, you'll know the bearing eyelets on the rear shock are a pain in the ass to remove for replacement or to perform an air can service. The official Rocky Mountain tool is $$ and frequently out of stock. My first version of this tool worked well when I did an air can service. Recently I wanted to replace the bearing eyelets, so I made a few tweaks to my design and it worked perfect. You'll need some bolts to clamp the pieces together and some more to press one of the bearing cups off. Use the drift to hammer out the remaining bearing cup just like the Rock Mountain kit uses (benefit with using plastic is it shouldn't scratch the eyelet on the shock.

Hardware needed: Four 6mm bolts and nuts, two 1/4" bolts and nuts.

Print two of each piece (except the drift). After printing, take the pieces to a hardware store to pick out your bolts and nuts. You'll need two bolts and nuts to clamp each side (6mm, four total) and then a 1/4" bolt and nut to do the pressing in each side (two total). If you can get wingnuts for the 6mm bolts, it makes things faster and easier for the clamping assembly (see pictures).

Just start the 1/4" nut on the bolt and then fit it in the recess provided. While holding that bolt in place, put the two halves together around one of the eyelet bearing and then insert the 6mm bolts to clamp that side. Do the same for the other side. When the 1/4" bolts are tightened, they'll meet in the middle inside the shock eyelet and press against each other. Continue to tighten either side and one of the eyelet bearing cups should be pressed off. Use the drift and a hammer to drive out the other one.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Creality

Printer:

Ender 3 Pro

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.16

Infill:

30%

Filament: Duramic PETG Red

Notes:

I printed these with 5 walls/perimeters and 5 top and bottom layers for extra strength.

Position these on their backs with the contours facing up and you will not need to use any supports.

Category: Hand Tools
