Bearded man from Tiglath-Pileser III's Palace
sketchfab
Gypsum wall panel from palace of Tiglath-Pileser III: carved in low relief with precision and care. This remarkable fragment showcases a bearded man-headed bull, adorned with a two-horned 'polos', whose top is held aloft by a band embellished with concentric squares, creating a striking visual effect. The intricate representation of the bull's ear in profile and the nuanced relation between the forehead, nose, and cheek-bone give the carving a concave shape that demands attention. Dating back to 728 BC, this significant find was discovered in the heart of Nimrud's central palace. Measuring 113 centimetres in height and 69 centimetres in width, it is a testament to the craftsmanship of its time. Unfortunately, this scan was captured just before closing time, resulting in subpar lighting conditions that manifest as specularity on the mesh.
