Almond eyes and refined hair give this portrait a distinctive look that recalls the works of renowned sculptor Myron, particularly his iconic Discobolus. The fact that the subject could be an athlete adds to this similarity, although some art historians believe the work was actually created by one of Myron's students or followers. According to Furtwangler (1893, 52, fig. 46), the Hermitage Museum suggests the bust may depict Peisistratos, a powerful ruler of ancient Athens who introduced the Panathenaic Games. This extraordinary artwork is housed in the Hermitage Museum in Russia and dates back to around the 5th century BC.
