This work in progress project involves utilizing a BeagleBone Black board for remix development. The creator will update on the progress, working to achieve stable flight while boasting a new body and arm design that is more rigid and stronger. If one chooses to fly with an off-the-shelf flight controller, there are numerous options available, but a bolt-on board mount for the selected board must be designed. The maker encourages others to share their makes and appreciates feedback. Videos showcasing the project can be found at https://youtu.be/r2XgoH-J0qQ and https://youtu.be/0JYt6nY9qHk. Feel free to ask questions or leave comments, with thanks to Hovership for inspiring the project. Future goals include adding a camera for FPV flying and switching to a smaller Intel Edison board. In Update 7, the body and arm design allows for wire passage through a socket, providing an aerodynamic shape with cooling ports. For those who wish to use other flight controller boards, a redesign of the board mount is necessary to sit on top of the battery cage. Update 6 showcases that the quad flies, which can be viewed at https://youtu.be/pXgDGT49fZc. Update 5 introduces pentagon-shaped motor arms for strength and an internal wire guide. A lid with breakaway support material is also included, along with improvements to the battery door. The BBB mount has been updated to fit the MPU9250 sensor board. Update 4 includes prop guards on the motor arms and a slit in the side for easy swapping of arms. Update 3 features an updated body shape with holes for motor wires, a wire channel under the motor arm extension, and an added WireGaurd to hold ESCs and wires into the chassis. Update 2 showcases weight-saving modifications, a battery door, and mounts for Raspberry Pi and BeagleBone (Black Rev C). Update 1 details a redesign of the bottom half of the body, with some tweaks needed to fit parts and potentially adding cutouts for weight reduction. The parts list includes M3 screws in various lengths, M3 standard nuts, GY-521 or GY-9250 boards (accelerometer/gyro/mag), BeagleBone Black Rev C, UWN200 wireless adapter, 4 Turnigy Multistar 15A V2 ESCs, 4 Cobra 2204/32 motors, 2 sets of Gemfan 6x3 blades (counter-rotating), a Zippy Compact 2200mAh 25c 3 cell battery, and a battery monitor with LED alarms.
