BCN chair by Roger Vallés

The Barcelona chair, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich in 1929 for Germany's International Exposition pavilion, has a history marked by trademark disputes. Initially, the frame was bolted together but was later redesigned using stainless steel in 1950 for a smoother appearance. Bovine leather replaced ivory-colored pigskin upholstery. The chair's design and elements were patented in Germany, Spain, and the US during the 1930s, but these expired. Knoll currently manufactures the Barcelona chair under license and holds trademark rights. Despite this, a replica market continues to thrive. Roger Vallès i Balsells, an industrial designer, creates products from design concept to production stage while controlling time and coordinating multidisciplinary teams. He has designed motion lighting POP solutions like Skoop, iDancer, StandLighting, and more.
