I had a blast experimenting with the Sphero rig of Shacksandbeans, thing:1266810 and gave BB8 a thrilling time with it. A wheel diameter of 5 to 6 cm will suffice, any wheel you prefer will do fine. The pen needs to move freely in the vertical direction. The pen holder can be adjusted to fit the pen's diameter perfectly. The pressure on the paper is solely caused by its own weight, no additional force needed.
