I experimented with the Sphero rig of Shacksandbeans, thing ID 1266810. I gave BB8 a great time with it too. The wheel diameter should be between 5 and 6 cm - any wheel will do just fine. The pen needs to move freely in the vertical direction. The pen holder can be adjusted to fit the pen's diameter. The pressure on the paper is caused solely by its own weight.
