Knife bayonets serve multiple purposes - they can be used as a combat knife, utility knife or even a traditional bayonet. The Seitengewehr 1884/98 model remained in service with the German military until 1945. Knife bayonets typically resemble fighting knives or utility knives, but are equipped with a lug and/or muzzle ring for attaching to a firearm's barrel, such as that of an M9. Modern examples of knife bayonets feature blades ranging from 6 inches to 8 inches in length and .75 inch to 1.5 inch in width.
