Bauhaus Model II 1924 Chess Set

Bauhaus Model II 1924 Chess Set

thingiverse

Inspired by Josef Hartwig's Model II chess set from Bauhaus Weimar in 1924, this scaled-down version has dimensions ~10mm smaller than the original. Compatible with boards sized 40-50mm squares, such as this Thingiverse design: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4258. The STL files are based on a 30mm King cube, from which all pieces are scaled proportionally. OpenSCAD files are parametric, allowing you to create chess sets in various sizes. As of now, the queen is still a work-in-progress, but the 25mm and 30mm files have been uploaded with multiple versions of the queen: one-piece, two-pieces, three-pieces. Print the desired queen version and all other pieces from the Parts List. The one-piece queen requires a flawless print, while the two-piece queen requires attaching pieces with 3mm filament. The two-piece diagonal queen and three-piece queen also require assembly with specific lengths of filament. After printing, consider coloring your chess set using alcohol-based ink pens for added flair. If you don't have a 3D printer or want a material other than thermoplastic, explore Shapeways and Ponoko pricing options for professional printing services.
