What I discovered is that Battlestar Galactica triad cards are an absolute blast to play but when it comes to storing them safely and nicely between games in the ship's galley, they really demand a fantastic box. This box holds the Battlestar Galactica triad cards seen in the movie and bought from fan websites (https://www.amazon.com/Anovos-Battlestar-Galactica-Triad-Cards/dp/B0085JVKJ8) I recommend this box was created with OpenSCAD, so it can be easily customized. To make it even better, I suggest using a cylon-colored gray filament or ProtoPasta Stainless Steel filament and polishing it to give it that shiny metal look. Here are my Print Settings: Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.3 mm to 0.2 mm with three shells or more Infill: 50% Note that using a higher infill in conjunction with stainless steel filament serves two purposes: the material doesn't bridge well over large gaps and it reduces sagging, while also giving the part a more substantial feel. Post-Printing Sanding: Start by sanding from 60 grit to 220 grit. Be sure to use extra shells! Next, apply Fab-U-Lustre polishing compound to a cloth wheel and those large flat surfaces are quite easy to polish. Just take your time and move in small circles until it shines. Keep applying the compound every so often and use a light touch, as this process can heat up the piece more than you think! Designing This I built this model to teach myself how to create something practical with OpenSCAD. The hardest part was getting started. What I enjoyed about this project is that I could specify variables like 'clearance' and incorporate them into the lid's sizes relative to the box. I measured the cards with vernier calipers, added clearances on a trial-and-error basis, and it surprisingly worked the first time.
