History: _Retvizan_ (Ретвизан) was a Russian pre-dreadnought battleship built by American firm William Cramp & Sons at their Philadelphia shipyard. Completed in early 1902, this ship served in the Tsar's navy before and during the Russo-Japanese War. Wartime service was brief, but distinguished: First as a beached guardship defending the entrance to Port Arthur against Japanese blockship operations, and later as the rescuer of the severely damaged flagship _Tsesarevich_ during the 1904 Battle of the Yellow Sea. Sunk in harbor by Japanese siege howitzers in December 1904, and captured with the fall of Port Arthur in January 1905, _Retvizan_ was eventually refloated and renovated to become IJN battleship _Hizen_ (肥前).
