Battleship Petropavlovsk (Poltava, Sevastopol) emerges from the dockyard in 1892, destined to become a mighty warship. Years of construction follow, culminating in its completion in 1899. Though its service is short-lived, it plays a pivotal role in history. The Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905 sees Petropavlovsk participate, and on July 13, 1904, disaster strikes when it hits a mine. Sinking rapidly, the battleship goes down with nearly all hands, including Admiral Stepan Osipovich Makarov, a hero of Russian waters.
