Battery-powered Water Level Sensor
thingiverse
A housing for a portable device powered by a battery can be secured to a water tank (such as a bucket). Connect a float switch, a lithium-ion battery, a USB charging circuit, and e.g., an ESP8266 microprocessor with WiFi capabilities to create a compact unit that alerts you when the water tank is nearly empty. You will require a few components to assemble the water level sensor: A basic float switch A charging circuit for 18650 lithium batteries A holder for an 18650 lithium battery 3mm screws, though you may need to experiment with different types since the holes are about 2mm in diameter. These parts typically cost around $1 each. An 18650 lithium-ion battery can be obtained from sources such as Amazon, but avoid purchasing extremely cheap options. A programmable microcontroller equipped with WiFi capabilities, such as the Adafruit ESP8266 Huzzah or a generic NodeMCU board that measures about 25mm by 50mm in size. These components generally cost approximately $10 each. Additionally, you might require a soldering iron and some cables. Refer to my GitHub repository for more information on coding and assembly. Please be cautious when working with lithium batteries, as I have not tested this housing for safety and it is not entirely waterproof. Safety will depend on your selection of battery types, protection circuits, charging circuits, etc. I take no responsibility if the batteries were to catch fire unexpectedly.
