Battery Frame Clip and Stand for Mini Drones

Battery Frame Clip and Stand for Mini Drones

thingiverse

Small quadcopter drones in the 90 to 100 mm size range are becoming increasingly capable and fun to fly, but their batteries only last a few minutes, requiring a large quantity of them. This design allows for quick battery changes while securely holding it in place during flight - no sticky tape or Velcro needed! It also provides quick, repeatable, and accurate battery placement, eliminating the need to retune drone flight characteristics after each change. Additionally, it offers a useful stand for take-offs and landings. The clip is the orange piece shown in the example photos. To install the clip on a drone, squeeze the round grip rods lightly to spread the "fingers" far enough to fit on the bottom plate of the drone (see the pictures for placement hints). Place the bottom plate in the middle of the clip fingers. After installing the clip on the drone, batteries can be popped in and out of the clip while it remains attached to the drone. No other attachment method or assistance is needed. The clip is extremely lightweight and does not impair the drone's flight performance. This design was specifically created for the Eachine Tiny QX95 95mm Micro FPV Racing Quadcopter with Camera, using 1S batteries from 500 to 720 mAh capacity. To fit similar quadcopters, resize the model up to 10% in any dimension and it should retain all critical functions. This design is intended to be printed on its side, as indicated by the orientation in the source STL file. The function of the model, including strength and flexibility, relies on the tensile strength of the extruded filament in the planar directions (parallel to the print bed). If re-oriented to flex across the interlayer axis (the Z axis in the source STL file), the model will fail quickly. Due to this printing orientation sensitivity, the contact edges of the model on the print bed are small. Therefore, set up your 3D printer to have excellent printing contact adhesion on the print bed for the duration of the print. I printed the model at 0.20 mm, but it will work fine at 0.25 mm too (and may actually be a little stronger).
