Battery Box with Spade Terminals

Battery Box with Spade Terminals

This is a battery box that uses piggyback spade terminals for the outputs. The default dimensions are for four 26650 LiFePO4 cells, a BMS and a bit of padding.

The connectors I used are called “piggyback connectors”. They friction fit pretty tightly into the holders on the underside of the top. Adding a little hot glue wouldn't hurt.

Use super glue or epoxy to keep the top shut.

I've included the FreeCAD file to customize. See below for parameters.

Spreadsheet Parameters

All dimensions are in millimeters.

Battery Width: Width of the inside of the box.

Battery Depth: Depth of the inside of the box.

Battery Height: Height of the inside of the box.

Top Gap: Height of the inside of the top. I found leaving a 10mm “gap” between the top and the top of the battery gave me room to add a piece of foam to support the battery.

**Also, make sure to leave at least a gap that is your Terminal Height + 3mm above your battery, whether you use this parameter or account for it in your Battery Height.

Terminal Width: Width of the widest part of the piggyback connector. (In my case it was the female terminal.

Terminal Length: Length of the female terminal on the piggyback connector, not including the crimp barrel - just the part that holds a male terminal.

Terminal Height: Thickness of the female terminal on the piggyback connector.

Terminal Thickness: Thickness of the male spade terminal on the piggyback connector.

Terminal Spacing: Distance between the terminals on the finished battery.
