The remnants of this artillery battery serve as a testament to the coastal defense of Martinique. These fortifications were necessary due to frequent conflicts with the British fleet and to counter piracy. Fond capot, located on the Carbet commune, has been defended by batteries since the 18th century and underwent reconstruction in the 19th century. It is an artillery battery characterized by a barbette platform and a parapet, accompanied by a small powder magazine featuring a bomb-resistant vault. Jonhattan Vidal of the Ministry of Culture, UMR Arscan, was responsible for the archaeological excavation. The operation was supported and funded by ONF, DAC Martinique, and Cap Nord. Onfray-Clausse and associates conducted the topography, while Jonhattan Vidal of the Ministry of Culture, UMR Arscan handled photogrammetry.
