Bathtub U-boat...SUPERSIZED!
thingiverse
Originally designed by Skimbal, I printed the enlarged Bathtub U-boat model and was thrilled with its appearance. Displayed on my work desk, it has received numerous compliments. To make it even cooler, I decided to scale it 200%, resulting in a nearly 6 feet long and 11-inch wide sub with a conning tower. Currently, I've spent around 20 hours scaling, cutting, reformatting, and printing test parts for the enlarged hull. A picture of the first five glued hull pieces is attached, along with the already printed fattest middle hull section beside them. After completing the hull, I plan to scale up the add-on pack (deck guns, periscopes, etc.) as well. However, Makerware struggles with this design, so Skenforge was used instead, which takes a long time to slice each part. Printing the hull pieces took an average of 9 hours each, totaling around 140 hours for all 14 parts. The default settings for Skeinforge are 10% fill, 2 walls, and .27 layer height without a raft.
