Bataan Death March Marker
thingiverse
The Bataan Death March (Filipino: Martsa ng Kamatayan sa Bataan; Japanese: Batān Shi no Kōshin) saw Imperial Japanese forces forcibly march 60,000–80,000 Filipino and American prisoners of war from Saisaih Point, Bagac, Bataan and Mariveles to Camp O'Donnell in Tarlac province. This brutal transfer began on April 9, 1942, after the Philippines was ravaged by a three-month Battle of Bataan during World War II. Prisoners were loaded onto trains at San Fernando, Pampanga, where they had been marched from Mariveles to and from the Capas Train Station to Camp O'Donnell, covering a distance of 60–69.6 miles. Reports vary widely on the number of Filipino and American prisoners who died before reaching Camp O'Donnell: some sources cite between 5,000 to 18,000 Filipino deaths and 500 to 650 American casualties. The march was marked by extreme physical abuse and senseless killings, leading an Allied military commission to label it a Japanese war crime.
