Bassoon cane gouging machine
thingiverse
Here's a design for a bassoon cane gouger. It requires a handful of non-printed parts, but was designed with the goal of costing tens of dollars instead of $1500 like the machines that are available for purchase online. There's room for a sliding tilted bed to allow for gouging thickness adjustment, but that is not yet implemented. In my current build I use thin shims under the cane bed to control gouging thickness. At present, the performance is pretty poor. I'll be iterating on this design to try to get satisfactory performance for my bassoon, dulcian, shawm, and racket reed making use.
