The topographic rendering was derived from the SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission). Data for this project was obtained from the SRTM website, where a map is provided to choose from. The srtm.html script helped in previewing the .hgt data. The online data converter (http://converter.mygeodata.eu/) was used to convert .hgt file to .asc format, which was then opened with Notepad. Some rows and columns were skipped to keep only required data. A spreadsheet can be utilized for handling the .asc file after converting the data separated by spaces. The surface() function in openscad software was used to render the topography. It is essential to mirror Y-axis and scale down the altitudes. One X or Y count represents 1/1200 of a degree angle, equivalent to 92.6 meters when scaled down. The Z-axis scaling factor is 1/92.6 (or 0.0108). The inspiration for this project came from Thingiverse's model number 16851.
