Basic Working 12 Hole Ocarina (Remix of Karuuv's Remix of nimaid's Design)
thingiverse
I have dramatically enlarged the diameters of the finger holes, resulting in a much more accurate instrument. In addition, I have cleverly added indents on the two middle finger holes, allowing for effortless sliding between them. Normally, I print this at 89% of its original size, ensuring that the lowest note resonates as a C instead of an A. To achieve an A as the lowest note, I print it at 106%. After investing countless hours perfecting this instrument from scratch, I've chosen to save the story for its companion Thing's summary. For smooth playability, ensure the wind channel is precisely rectangular and completely unobstructed. Utilizing a half-round file, carefully hone the sharp edge of the voicing window until it's almost razor-sharp, then verify that it remains centered in the airflow by shining a light through the wind channel. I've discovered that if the lowest note sounds slightly flat, you can further refine the voicing window's edge, but only after ensuring the elliptical curve remains intact and the edge stays centered in the airflow. Employing the same half-round file, incrementally enlarge the holes' diameters until perfect tuning is achieved, using the PanoTuner app to monitor progress. The two thumb holes demand slightly more filing due to their undersized nature. To master all notes, maintain consistent breath pressure, sit or stand upright to preserve diaphragm and lung function, and hold the ocarina at the ideal angle for direct airflow down the wind channel.
