Base for Tarheel Ants Mini Hearth Nest and Face shield
thingiverse
I adore the Tarheel Ants Mini Hearth nest but unfortunately, I had nothing to cover the front of the nest from the light and my phiedole bicarinata colony gets extremely stressed out by the light. I also experienced issues with keeping their nest properly hydrated as well as the occasional spill causing water to leak onto my bookshelf. So I designed and printed a little shield for the front of the nest and a base to help prevent leaking. The face plate attaches to the front via magnets that I glued on and the nest simply sits in the base. You can water the nest via the normal water means still but in a time pinch you can simply squeeze some water into the base at the front where the glass sits and it'll absorb through the base to humidify the nest. I spelled out Tarheel Ants to the front on the base but I can add a version without if anyone asks. You can also simply turn the base around if you don't want to see it. Printer: TronXY Filament: B&H Clear Red (PLA) Layer Height: .3 Infil: 10% for base, none for shield I printed the face shield standing up as it is in the stl file. If your printer can't get its top layer on the face shield at hollow then just do 5%.
