The Temple of Bel, also known as the Temple of Baal, stood tall in ancient times as a sacred site in Palmyra, Syria. Dedicated to the Mesopotamian god Bel, this temple played a pivotal role in the city's religious life, forming an unbreakable bond with the lunar god Aglibol and the sun god Yarhibol. Consecrated in 32 AD, it became the epicenter of spiritual devotion for the people of Palmyra. Despite its incredible preservation, the Temple of Bel fell victim to destruction at the hands of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria in August 2015. Miraculously, the main entrance, a stunning arched gateway, remains intact to this day.
