Barsebäck romanesque church door
sketchfab
The intricate ironwork adorning the church door in Barsebäck has been stylistically pinpointed by Lennart Karlsson to around 1150, a date firmly rooted in the Romanesque period. My own examination of the carpentry craftsmanship and tool marks has led me to concur that they belong to the latter half of the 12th century. Hans Linderson's dendrochronological analysis of one of the oak door frames has revealed a conclusive date after 1165, with the most plausible timeframe spanning from 1175 to 1195. Notably, the three pine boards, likely imported due to their characteristics, are unfortunately fast-grown and unsuitable for further dendrochronological study. Measuring 244cm in height and 94cm in width, the door remains an enigmatic artifact waiting to be fully deciphered. Photography and modeling credits go to Karl-Magnus Melin.
